2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe: Pioneering the Road Ahead

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was last redesigned in 2022, with a fifth-generation model establishing itself as the best version yet. A fresh addition joined the lineup – the 4xe. This emblematic term marks Jeep's stride into the future, symbolizing its embrace of electrification. The conventional "4x4" label will evolve into the progressive "4xe" in the coming years. Jeep's boss, Christian Meunier, said it himself: "4xe is the new 4x4".

For now, a Jeep model sporting the "4xe" badge signifies a hybrid version with an electric driving capability. Yet, this is more than just one eco-friendly option among as many as four trims available: 4xe, Trailhawk 4xe, Overland 4xe, and Summit 4xe.

The Trailhawk model, the epitome of off-road prowess in the lineup, comes solely in this hybrid variant. It shows you where Jeep is heading.

About the 2024 iteration, it retains its proven attributes while embracing new enhancements for the upcoming year.

In 2024, the Trailhawk model will boast new 18-inch black-painted aluminum wheels as a standard feature. The lineup also welcomes an Anniversary Edition, a continuation of last year's celebrated 30th-anniversary edition. This model adds Capri leather, ventilated front seats, wireless charging for mobile devices, a premium nine-speaker Alpine audio system, sleek black accents, and eye-catching 20-inch wheels.

Exploring the Grand Cherokee's distinct advantages, which extend to the 4xe versions, these models can be equipped with two of the three available 4x4 systems found in the Grand Cherokee lineup – namely, the Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II. Opting for the latter yields an electronic limited-slip rear differential, expertly channelling power to the wheels with optimal traction. This setup also encompasses a two-speed transfer case and the adaptable Select-Terrain management system, fine-tuning drivetrain settings based on the surfaces you find yourself on. The driving modes include Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Mud/Sand. Incorporating the Quadra-Lift air suspension, the experience guarantees unmatched comfort regardless of your destination.

Mechanically, everything revolves around a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine coupled with a 17 kWh battery, functioning on a 400-volt architecture. The power provided is mind-boggling: 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. In all-electric mode, the Grand Cherokee 4xe achieves a range of 42 kilometres, enabling extended electric driving during most daily commutes. Behind the wheel, drivers have three operational choices: hybrid, full electric, or the e-Save configuration. This flexibility empowers users to allocate electric range where it matters most. For instance, one can engage the e-Save mode while on the highway to reserve electric propulsion for city driving, where fuel consumption tends to peak.

In summary, these flexible settings offer simple means to optimize efficiency.
